This is Rooster's third day working on the Scent Wheel.

Several "firsts" in today's session

• all 6 containers (cans) are on the wheel
• the wheel is horizontal and on the floor
• the wheel is resting on the Lazy Susan and turns easily
• Rooster is now able to circle the wheel to locate the odor

Set 1

Rooster was having trouble with the wheel in a horizontal position on the floor. He wanted to step on it to reach the can on the opposite side.  I didn't have anything suitable to elevate the wheel where he had ease of access to all the cans, it was secure, and at the right height.  The floor was the most logical place for the wheel.  Rooster was  going to have to first develop some understanding and skills with using the wheel.  I backed up  and using the wheel retaught the behavior "Go Around" first with the wheel empty and then adding cans until all six were placed on the wheel.  After he was comfortable working in either direction and moving around the wheel on the floor we went back to adding the shaker with scent. Though he occasionally will try to step on the wheel, he doesn't like that it spins freely and the behavior is extinguishing itself.  Also I initially might softly cue "go around" if it looked like he was thinking of stepping across just as a reminder.  That too is seldom necessary and will soon not be needed.
